Craigentinny Castle Playgroup aims to provide a quality service in a safe, happy and stimulating environment for children aged 2.5 – 5 years to play and learn. Each child is treated equally and as an individual to allow them to progress and develop at their own pace. We work closely in partnership with parents who are recognised as the prime educators of their children. Supporting parental involvement by sharing in play helps parents to develop their own relationships, knowledge and learning. The playgroup session times:
Mon – Fri 8.45 — 12 .00, wraparound (drop off to craigentinny nursery, St Ninians nursery and Parsons Green Nursery for an extra of £4 fee).
Craigentinny & Lochend Community Playgroup has been running for over 20 years. Its setting within the Community Centre has been a great asset to the work of the group and has provided children and parents opportunities to be involved in the wider community and to attend local events and celebrations. The group has charitable status and is supported by the Children’s and Families Department, grants, trusts and our own fundraising efforts.
To provide the children with a happy, stimulating, secure and caring environment focused on play, in which the children can learn and develop and grow.

• To treat each child equally and as an individual and to allow them to progress and develop at their own pace.
• To work in partnership with parents who are recognised as the prime educators of their children.
• To develop innovative, wide ranging play experiences using a range of resources and technology reflective of modern childhood and theoretical perspectives on learning through play.
• To maintain links with our local community.
Our Play Leader is Sylwia Kolodziej-Flisek (a native polish speaker) who has been working with the play group for a few years now. Alan is our playworker a qualified Early Years Practitioner.
The playgroup has a voluntary committee made up of parents and carers. They help run the business side of the group. Without the committee, the Playgroup would not be able to legally function. The committee meets monthly and an AGM is annually in April. At the AGM all members are all welcome to stand for the committee posts. New members will be encouraged to take part.
The committee is made up of 6 positions: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraisers and 2 ordinary members.
All parents are expected to support and /or help at any fundraising events.
The ethos of the playgroup includes parental involvement and, whilst we don’t have an established parent rota, all parents are welcome at anytime to volunteer or just to come along and visit. We operate an open door policy at all times.
First day Settling in
On the first day we invite parents/carers to come into the hall with your child and meet staff and the other children. We will ask you to fill in consent forms. This time will also give you a chance to ask any questions you may have.
On the first day we suggest you stay with your child to assess how he/she will settle. A settling in period is usual and we expect parents to provide flexible support depending on your child’s needs.
